Exercise FORCE 18 has started in which city? 

Pune Multinational Field Training Exercise (FTX) – Exercise FORCE 18, involving ASEAN Plus countries has started in Pune. This is the largest Ground Forces Exercise ever conducted on Indian soil and would be conducted from 02 to 08 March 2016 with themes based on ‘Humanitarian Mine Action’ and ‘Peacekeeping Operations’. In its first phase, over 28 foreign trainers were trained by the Indian Army from 24 Feb to 01 Mar 2016. These trainers will form the training backbone for the conduct of ‘Exercise FORCE 18’.

The fifth edition of IBSAMAR 2016 trilateral naval exercise between Brazil, India and South Africa kicked off in Goa. IBSAMAR is abbreviated as India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime. This is the for the first time the exercise is held in India as all the previous editions were held in South Africa since it began in 2006.

Air India operates world’s longest all-women flight 

National carrier Air India successfully flew the World’s longest all-woman operated and supported flight from the national capital New Delhi to San Francisco (United States). The flight was operated as part of International Women’s Day celebrations and travelled a distance of around 14,500 kilometres in close to 17 hours. The non-stop flight to San Francisco took off on 6th March 2016 from New Delhi. Key facts The flight was under the command of Kshamta Bajpayee and Shubhangi Singh. They were supported by First Officers Ramya Kirti Gupta and Amrit Namdhari. Entire operations in this historic flight on one of the world’s longest route were handled by women. They handled all operations including cockpit crew to cabin crew, check-in staff, doctor, customer care staff, ATC (air traffic control) and the entire ground-handling. Currently, National carrier Air India has about 3,800 women employees, including pilots, engineers, cabin crew, doctors, technicians, security personnel and executives.

The exercise is hosted by the Indian Army and in it 18 ASEAN Plus countries including China, USA, Russia, Japan and South Korea are participating.

India’s first solar powered ferry will come up in which state? 

Kerala India’s first 75-seater solar powered ferry will come up in the favourite tourism spot of Kerala “Allepey (the Venice of the East)”.These boats will be commissioned within the next three months and will run on the 2.5 km-long Vaikkom-Thavanakkadavu route. The boat is 20 m long, 7 m wide with a maximum cruising speed of 7.5 knots. The boat is built by a Kochi-based NavAlt, in collaboration with a French firm AltEn, which makes solar powered ferries across the world.
