All About Sainik School Entrance Exams

Age Limit: (a) Class VI – Boys born between 02 Jul 2004 & 01 Jul 2005 (both days inclusive).
(b) Class IX – Boys born between 02 Jul 2001 & 01 Jul 2002 (both days inclusive) and should have passed class VIII from a recognized School before admission.
The above age limit is for 2015-16 session.
Every year you can add one more year and then decide as to when your child can take up the exam 

When to prepare?
Idealy the boy should be made to prepare from class IV for class VI entrance. The syllabus though is that of CBSE class V, it is slighly more

In case of non-availability of sufficient candidates in SC/ST Category, vacancies if any, will be filled in by candidates from General Category.


How to Apply?
Prospectus, Application Form and last year’s question papers can be obtained from ‘The Principal, Sainik School, of the respective state where your belong to. The cost of application is different for different schools. You can apply for any one school only.

Important Note: Requisition for Prospectus should clearly indicate Class for admission, the Category (General /Defence /SC /ST) and Medium for Entrance Exam.


Last Date for completed application forms to reach School is 06 Dec 2014. Application forms should be sent by post only and will not be accepted in person or by hand

Delay caused due to postal or any other reason will not be entertained.

Eligibility and Pattern of Entrance Examination
Admission to the School is Primarily open to the state to which the boy belong to (BY Domicile boys). Only one chance will be allowed to any candidate for taking Entrance Examination for Classes VI and IX admission into Sainik School. The boys are admitted according to the seats available at the beginning of the year.

(a) Admission to Class VI. Only those boys who have completed 10 years but not 11 years as on 01 July of the year of admission are eligible. Medium of examination will be English or any other recognised Indian Language. Question papers for Class VI will be supplied in the Medium as indicated in the application form.

(b) Admission to Class IX. Only those boys who have completed 13 years but not 14 years as on 01 July of the Year of admission are eligible for admission to Class IX. The candidates should have passed class VIII from a recognised School before admission. The question papers are set in English only. However, the candidates have the option to answer in any recognised Regional Language as indicated by them in the Application Form except English Paper. The pattern of question paper may vary from year to year.

Method of Evaluation
The Entrance Examination consists of a written examination followed by an interview of short listed candidates. The written papers for Class VI and Class IX will be as under:-

Medium of Examination for both t
he above examinations will be English, Hindi or any other recognised official language. The question papers for Class VI will continue to be set in English and all the recognized Official Languages. But Question Papers for Class IX will be set in English Language only. No separate answer sheets are required for both Class VI and Class IX as ample space for answers is provided in Question Papers itself.


The Minimum qualifying marks for General Category candidates as well as children of Defence Service personnel and ex-servicemen will be 25% in each subject with 40% in aggregate unless these qualifying standards are revised or changed by issue of written directions by the Honorary Secretary, Sainik Schools Society, Mininstry of Defence. In the case of SC/ST candidates, the minimum qualifying standards are not required and they will be admitted on the basis of inter-se-merit at the entrance examination / interview within these categories. In case of SC/ST candidates comes in the general merit on his own, he would be admitted against general seat and will not be adjusted against the reserved share of SC/ST seats.


In addition to 300 marks prescribed for Written Examination for Class VI and 450 marks for Class IX, 50 marks for both VI & IX Classes would be set apart for interview. The merit list for admission to the Sainik School would be compiled on the basis of total marks. In case there is a tie with regard to overall marks, the mark for mathematics would be considered. In case there is a tie here also, the marks for English for Class IX and intelligence Test for Class VI will be considered and thereafter the marks for General Science for Class IX and Language for Class VI. In case there is tie there also, the boy younger in age will be selected. It will not be necessary for a boy to qualify separately in the interview and marks obtained in the written test and interview together will determine his position in the final merit list.



Kindly note: Although the pass mark in each subject is 25%, and aggregate is 40 %
that all the candidates who pass the written examination may not be called for interview. Candidates will be called for interview in 1:3 ratio as per the merit list of the entrance examination and also depending on the number of expected vacancies

Reservation
67% of the seats in each Sainik School will be reserved for boys from the state in which the Sainik School is located. The Shortfall, if any, and the remaining seats will be thrown open to boys from other States and Union Territories. 15% of the total seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% seats for Scheduled Tribes. 25% of seats are reserved for Children of Service Personnel including Ex-Servicemen. In case the required SC/ST/DEF candidates are not available, the vancancies will be filled in by General Category candidates. 

Interview and Medical Examination & Standards
. Boys are called for Interview and Medical Examination as per Merit list of the Entrance exam marks. The interview marks for both classes VI and IX will be 50. Marks secured in the interview are added to those secured in the written examination for determining the final order of merit for admission.
All candidates before admission to Sainik School shall be subjected to a medical examination by a Board consisting of military or civil doctors. The standards of health and medical fitness would be the same as laid down for the NDA Examination. In view of the tender age of the boys, however, no standards of height, weight and chest measurement will be applicable at the time of admission. The visual standards are as under:-

Colour Perception : Inability to distinguish colours will be permanent rejection. Myopia not to exceed minus 1.5D including astigmatism. Manifest Hypermetropia not to exceed plus 2.5 D Sph including astigmatism. Fundus & Media - to be healthy with no changes of myopia. Visual fields to be full in each eye. Binocular Vision and stereopsis must be good. Mild Trachoma, Stage III or IV, with a regressive corneal pannus of not more than 1 to 2 mm may be accepted provided in the opinion of the specialist, exacerbation or deterioration is not likely. Surgical correction or laser treatement of Myopia is a permanent rejection. 


It may be noted that the number of candidates called for interview and Medical examination is more than the number of seats available in order to cover absentees, rejection in Interview and Medical Examination. THEREFORE, IT MAY BE CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD THAT QUALIFYING IN THE WRITTEN TEST, INTERVIEW AND MEDICAL DOES NOT CONSTITUTE ANY COMMITMENT ON THE PART OF THE SCHOOL TO ADMIT THE CANDIDATE. ADMISSION WILL BE MADE STRICTLY ACCORDING TO MERIT LIST PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SAINIK SCHOOLS SOCIETY RULES AND REGULATIONS VIS-A-VIS THE AVAILABILITY OF VACANCIES. 


The Candidates who are low in order of Merit for admission to this School may be admitted in other Sainik School, in case vacancies exist, based on merit and as Full Fee paying Students. The Parents willing to admit their sons/wards in other Sainik Schools are to give an undertaking that they are willing to admit their sons / wards as Full Fee paying Cadets in Sainik
Parents / Guardians of boys must submit the following documents at the time of admission : 


(a) Proof of Age As proof of date of birth, the parents may produce one of the following documents as applicable to them:-

(i) Boys who have previously at any time attended a recognised School Transfer Certificate duly countersigned by the District Educational Officer of the concerned District.

(ii) Boys who have not attended a recognised School. Certificate Extract from the Register of Births issued by the Municipal Commissioner or by the Registrar of Births and Deaths (Applicable only in case of admission to Class VI.)
