Aim: Aim of this academy is to train candidates to face challenges in life right from young age, via mental, physical and personal discipline. Academic achievement is part and parcel of our curriculum.
The Academy also aims at inculcating habits of discipline and organized work in youth and create a sense of leadership. Fostering and advancing a notion of common brotherhood, interest in our rich heritage and love for the mother-land is also aimed by the Academy.
Our Motto, “ AIM – ACT- ACHIEVE”. 

Future addition:
Games & sports are compulsory for all the students. The Academy will have facilities for all major games / sports, including a 400 mtr. Athletics track. The academy will apply for adoption  by the sport Authority of India (S.A.I.) presently S.A.I. to provide coaches of swimming, Tennis, volley ball and hockey for the Academy. We plan to conduct events at the state & also National level. The Academy will have a 5omtr. Swimming pool.

SPECIAL FEATURES
  1. Supervised study:Compulsory supervised study periods (under guidance of Squarden Master) are conducted every evening (except on Saturdays). During these periods the students are required to complete their homework/assignments. Home-work is regularly checked and grades are allotted, weightage of which is given for the final exam.
  2. Vocational Guidance:A vocational Guidance Center, under a trained staff member is functioning in the school since 2014. The center provides latest information on various higher education course to the students. A two-day career guidance seminar is organized every year, with the help of experts from various fields.
  3. International Competitions: Students of this school WILL be encouraged to take  part in various national and international  competitions held at various place. The school has an indoor and an outdoor shooting range where the students are given advanced training in shooting.

Academy is now fully operational. Academy was established keeping in mind the resilient demand and aspirations of deserving students from the environment.
The Academy aims: “To motivate, train and facilitate students to join Armed Forces in officer’s crade.”
Coaching classes for the first batch of students for NDA & NA entrance exam which is scheduled in March 2015 admission is in progress. This batch will have 30 carefully selected students.
                 The Academy is planning to start two more branches in April 2015 for the students studying in class XI and class XII respectively. The vacancies for each batch will be 30 students. Admissions will be bases on merit through a screening test. Coaching classes for CDSE & AFCAT will commence in Jan 2015. 1. GENERAL : 2006 our founder Colonel jayavel founded “Defence Academy Coimbatore” to train boys and girls with various of Life. He Wanted to develop their personality, make them self reliant, mentally robust and physically strong to be able to serve the Nation in any capacity and for those who could not join the “Sainik School” He started the summer/winter courses of short duration.

2. AIM : Keeping colonel’s dream in mind during the course we strive to :-
(a) Expose student to community living.
(b) Imbibe spirit of Nationalism, brotherhood and sportsmanship in them.
(c) Acquaint them with teamwork decision making and leadership.
(d) Give them insight into their own personality and show them a way to develop it.

3. LOCATION : The campus is nearly 100 acres. Famously known as Kuruchi kottai. It located nearly 2000 feet above mean sea level on the SOUTH of the Udumalpet on Dalhi Road. The nearest Railway Station Udumalpet is approx.. 15 kms away whereas the Tamil nadu State Road Transport Corporations Central Bus Stand (CBS)is hardly ten kms away. Buses  and taxis ply between the Railway Station/Bus stand and the campus.

4. DURATION:01 May to 31 May 2015 (Both days inclusive)

5. PHYSICAL AND EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS : Students should be physically fit and should not Be Suffering from any disease / ailment. They should not be under/over weight for the age and height.They should have appeared or passed at least 10th Class Board Examination.

6. TRAINING:Keeping the aim of course in mind i.e.is to inculcate qualities of military leadership, The training program is accordingly prepared. However, it may be noted that in the short duration of 4 weeks we cannot turn-cut fully developed military leader but will positively put the trainees on right path of military leadership. Besides, the course is not aimed at making the trainees a well trained rider/ swimmer/shooter but to expose them to these sporting activities in the limited time.

7. THE TRAINING PROGRAMME WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING :
(a) Physical Training
(b) Drill
(c) Weapon Training (includes shooting with . air gun)
(d) Field and battle craft Training, Map Reading, Direction finding, judging distance etc.
(e) Yogasanas
(f) Self Defence
(g) Basic skills of Horse Riding
(h) Basic skill of Swimming
(i) Group Discussions
(j) Lecture: Field Craft, Battle Craft, Filed Engineer, Introduction of Army Training & Weapon training.
(k) Outdoor Visit
(l) Cultural Program
(m) Demonstration of Martial arts
(n) 25 Km Hiking (walk)
Medium of instruction will be Tamil / English. The training period is a hard camp life, devoid of luxuries. The trainees are advised to practice marching with the leather shoes/jogging with the canvas shoes. This will tone up their leg muscles and avoid shoe-bite during training.

8. ADMISSIONS :
Those applying should thoroughly satisfy themselves with the administrative Arrangements made for the course and other details before seeking admissions. Following should be noted
(a) Application form duly filled, must reach this office by 15 April 2015.
(b) Those who have under gone this course previously are not eligible.
(c) Incomplete application, without necessary Xerox copies of certificates, will not be Considered. Those nominated will only be informed. No queries need be made letters or phone calls regarding selection/non-selection.
(d) Though, the confirmation letters will be sent by registered post, the authorities will not be Held responsible for any postal delay, non-receipt of communication or losses in transit of any mail. Preferably important correspondence to the school be made by registered letter.
(e) Although the last date for submission of the form is 15th April 2015 sending the form Before this date does not necessarily mean that admission will be granted. There are a limited number of vacancies and the school authority  reserve the right to reject any form without giving Any reason whatsoever. No queries in this reguard will be entertained

9. It is not a remand home OR reformatory school, hence has no compound walls or fencing. Parents, therefore, should not force their children to attend the course.

10. FEES:
(a) The course fee per students is Rs.12,500/- including lodging. Receipt for fees received can Be collected on arrival to attend the course. No refund of fees will be admissible in case the course & called off after commencement owing to other reasons. The course will not be extended in case of inclement weather or any other reason to make up the period of training lost.
(b) Kindly note that there will be no refund of the fees in case of withdrawal from the Course for any reason whatsoever. In case of cancellations before the commencement of the course, an administrative charge will be deducted from the fees before refunding it.Mode of Payment : Please send a DD of Rs.12,500/- of any Nationalised Bank favouring,  along with application form. Name of the applicant must be written on the reverse of the draft.

11. CERTIFICATE :
At the end of course , a trainee is tested in all the subjects and given a Certificate provided he has participated in the passing out parade after 90% attendance on parades/classes. Cases involving fractures or hospitalization or physical inability assessed by our Medical Officer, will not be admissible . Decision of authorities will be final and binding on the trainees.

12. DISCIPLINE : As a part of training rigid discipline is enforced throughout. Breach of Discipline may entail removal of a trainee from the course without assigning any reason and in Such case no refund of fees will be admissible . Futher :
(A) A trainee once admitted will not leave the course without obtaining the permission and Clearance. The course authorities will not be held responsible in case a trainee leaves the Course premises without permission. Such cases will be intimated to the parents by a normal letter only. The responsibility of collecting pept over baggage, devolves on the trainee and not on the authorities. Permission for withdrawal from the course will only be given in case parents apply for it and not the trainee himself.
(B) A trainee will have to reside in the hostel and dine in the mess during the entire Duration of the course, hence is subject to the rigid laid down discipline. No food/eatables from outside should be brought inside the campus by either the trainee or his parents/ Guardians. Attendance during breakfast, lunch and dinner is compulsory.
(C) Trainees are not allowed to keep mobile phones. Any mobile phones found with the Trainees will be confiscated.
(D) No smoking, drinking and gambling is permitted. No two/ three / four wheeler will be Confiscated.
(E) Valuables : The authorities will not be responsible for loss of any valuables if brought By trainee and stolen during the course. Extra cash more than 100/- valuables should be deposited with the respective company officer on arrival. Transistors, cassette player or two-in-one, FM are not permitted.
(F) Rs,800/- must be deposited with welfare officer on arrival. This money is needed for Expenditure on Insurance, STD Calls, Tuck Shop and for out pass. Remaining money will be Refunded at the end of the course.
(G) Visits/ Telephone calls by Guardians/Friends : No visitors are permitted to enter the Campus except on Sundays 0930 hrs. To 1730hrs. They are also not permitted to enter the hostels. No messages’ TOT trainees or’ enquiries regarding their welfare on health will be entertained on the telephone . Guardians / friends of trainees from Coimbatore or places around will not be permitted to visit students during the course. No out pass on 02 & 30 May 2015.
(H) No leave of any kind will be granted during the course.
(I) Unhealthy criticism/comments are prohibited.
(J) Insubordination, indiscipline, refusal to take our school pattern haircut, attend parades Or course activity, will render a trainee liable for withdrawal from the course. No refund of Fees is permissible in such a case
(K) No gifts of any kind or tips to any members of the staff are permitted.
(L) All course papers/ applications / results or connected materials are destroyed after 14 days of the termination of the course, hence no queries on the course will be Entertained thereafter.
(M) Students must be included /vaccinated TAB/TT before arrival. Medicine once issued By the doctor will not be taken back. Own medicines, without consent of Medical Officer, should not be taken.
(N) Those interested more in finding faults or wrongs with system or the course or Knowing as to what their rights are, instead of learning their lessons or picking up the good points, need not attend the course. You should first satisfy yourself with the administrative arrangements or find out the way the training be being imparted at this place, before applying. There is no use cribbing afterwards.

13. ARRIVAL :
Trainees must bring the admission card sent by us at the time of reporting To the reception centre established by the course authorities on 01 May 2015 between 0930 hrs. to 1230 hrs. Arrivals prior to this are not entertained as no administrative arrangements can be made in such cases.

14. PERSONAL CLOTHING / UNIFORM ARTICLES :
(A) Personal Clothing : Every Trainee must bring the personal articles of clothing And toilet requisites as per own requirements including civilian clothes for use after parade hours, bed sheets a lock with key for the cupboard and musical instrument, if any. An iron cot and small half size cupboard will be provided on arrival. Mattress of the requisite size will be provided by the school hence this need not be brought. Use of mosquito net is compulsory.

Payment & hire items where mentioned may be bought/ hired from the school stores. Other articles will have to be procured  prior to arrival for course.

15. MESSING :
Everyday tea, breakfast, lunch, afternoon – tea and dinner(Indian style) Is served. Non-vegetarian dishes are limited. No food articles from outside will be permitted. Food is simple, nutritious and caters for the taste of the majority of the trainees.

16. STORES AND CANTEEN :
We maintain a clothing stores and wet canteen for selling sundry Articles such as fast as food and toiletries etc. Canteen facilities on cash payment caters for soft drinks and snacks.

17. LAUNDRY : Laundry facility (Machine washing less Dry cleaning) is available in the school Premises.

18. MEDICAL FACILITIES :
Through every reasonable precaution Is taken to avoid injuries and Accidents, the authorities of the school do not hold themselves responsible for any injury sustained by a trainees during the training. Any medical treatment or examination of the trainee will be arranged under the orders of our Medical Officer. A Trainee will have to bear the charges for medicines issued. A First aid health Centre exists in the premise. The Medical Officer will be available for free consultation every evening between 1700 to 1900 hrs. A qualified nurse resides emergency attention. Medicines prescribed by the doctor will be given To the sick. It will be incumbent on the sick to take the medicines and get well soon. At no stage unused medicines will be taken back. Students will also be billed for any consultation/ hospitalization outside the campus.

19. OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE :
All official correspondence should be addressed to the Commandant, Sainik Defence Academy, Summer Military Training Course, Kuruchikottai, udumalpet, Tamil Nadu. Further, correspondence should bear full name of the trainee & his address to trace out previous reference. No correspondence by name will be accepted. Following office timings for the course correspondence / activity will be observed.

21. PARENTS AND GUARDIANS :
As their wards are undergoing training, they can see them Only on Sundays during 0930 hrs to 1730 hrs. With prior-intimation. VISITORS ARE PROHIBITED ON WORKING DAYS. No one is permitted to enter Hostels Dorms.

22. OUT PASS :
Out pass on Sunday is voluntary. The students are permitted to take the Same at their own risk. They should visit only selected places at Udumalpet within restricted time And return for roll call, before it gets dark. Late comes may be withdrawn from the course.

23. TELECOM FACILITY :
STD facility is available in the school. Trainees may avail of this facility During specified time(from 2nd week)

24. RETURN RESERVATION :
School authority are not responsible for the return journey Reservations. However, every effort will be made to help the trainees in case required.

25. POST OFFICE :
An extension counter of the post office exists within the campus. It will remain open from 01 P.M. to 02 P.M. Daily.

26. Sainik Defence Academy:
The Academy(Residential) is having classes From Standard IV to VIII (English Medium)  English Medium for preparing students for Saianik, rms, rimc and NDA, SSB it is a non recognized non-government residential Military School with facilities for Physical and Military training. Sports, Rifle Shooting and Swimming as a compulsory additional subject. The words of defence personnel can apply for Central Government awards/ scholarsphips yearly for the students appearing for the National Defence Academy Examination. Admission is given in IV class after a test. Preference is given to those students who are keen to join Defence Services.

27. PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT CAMP :
Two short courses of two weeks duration each are Held from 14 to 28 April and Diwali Vacation for boys and girls in the age group of 12 to 141/2 years Beside out-door, trainees are given instruction in Photography, art and craft, dramatics, music and elocution. The course fee at present Is Rs.7000/-. The advertisement for the Summer & Winter, appears 26th Jan And 15th Aug. Every year, respectively.

28. SAINIK ADVENTURE FOUNDATION : Sainik Adventure Foundation has been establishment to conduct a number of short/long duration adventure courses covering adventure – sports, like Rock Climbing, Rappling, Canoeing, Kayaking, Trekking & Gilding Para-salling etc. Details can be obtained by writing to the Director, Sainik Adventure Foundation, Kuruchikottai, Udumalpet –642 005. School Facilities
The Academy has the following facilities for the Cadets:
Bhavan (Hostels):
There are a total of 3 Dorms in which the students are accommodated. The students are divided into three groups as per their age viz., sub junior ( Class IV,V & VI) junior ( Class VII,VIII ) and Seniors ( Class XI & XII ) Each student is provided with a cot, a cupboard and study furniture in the Dorm, Each Squadron is looked after by a Squadron master, who is responsible for the inmates of the Squadron. A senior Squadron master is in charge of all the Squadrons.Parents are not permitted into the Squadrons for the reasons of safety and security of the students
Cadets Mess:
All the students dine in a common mess. ( There is a separate mess for senior classes) The mess caters for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The mess provides morning tea, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea & snacks and dinner to the students at the specified timing. Attendance is compulsory at each meal. Though the mess is run by a contractor, the Academy has appointed a mess manager to supervise working of the mess and to look after the arrangements. Samples of each meal are send daily to the Commandant for tasting to ensure quality of cooking. The menu served is general and nourishing in nature for the needs of growing children. Regular mess meeting are held by the Academy authorities with the representatives of the students to know their problems about mess; and changes in the menu are discussed with them. No eatables from outside are permitted to be brought in the mess.
Computer Lab:
A modern computer lab having multimedia facility is available in the Academy. There is a plan to give internet facility to all students.
Library:
The academic section has a well-equipped library, which subscribes to a number of newspapers and periodicals.
Tuck-shop:
A small Tuck-shop run by a contractor is available in the campus which serves both as a small cafeteria and a general store for the requirements of the students.
Cinema:
The students are shown cinema in Academy auditorium on alternate Saturdays. Limited television viewing is arranged for the students.
 Health Center:
The Academy has a health center, which is looked after by a part time medical officer and a full time medical attendant. The health center caters to first aid preliminary health care. It has  an isolation ward. Serious cases are referred to experts from outside. Intimation about serious cases is sent promptly to the parents.
Telphone:
STD facility will be available daily. Incoming calls maybe made as per the routine given in the conspectus.
Scholarship:
A number of scholarships for deserving students instituted by the State Governments and the Society are available, details about which may be obtained if  required, from the Academy authorities. The Defence Academy Education Foundation has also instituted some Scholarships.
Prizes:
To motivate the students to excel themselves, a number of prizes have been instituted, both for academic and the outdoor activities, including military training. The best Cadet of the year, from class VIII is awarded the “Medal of Merit” .
SCHOOL TERM:
The academic session is divided into two terms. The first term begins on the first/second Monday of June and the second term in Oct/Nov after Diwali vacations. The date of reopening of the Academy is informed to the parents are requested to ensure that their wards report to school on the reopening day, those who do not join on the specified date will be charged a fine @ Rs. 50 per day. No students is allowed to stay in the Academy during vacations.
LEAVE:
Leave of any kind is discouraged as it affects the studies and other training routine of the students. However, it may be granted on extra

12. INSTRUCTIONS TO THE PARENTS :
(a) Trainee must bring the admission card sent by us at the time of reporting to the Reception centre established by the course authorities on 01 May 2015 between 0930 hrs. to 1230 hrs. Arrivals prior to this are not entertained as no administrative arrangements can be made in such cases.
(b) Parents are cordially invited to the closing function scheduled at 1000 hrs. on Last Saturday of May 2015
