Hi, folks,

as the results of 10 +2 are announced, most of the students must be looking out to join colleges for further studies. Many students as well as their parents, especially from Tamil Nadu are asking how to join the NDA? When I probed them, their answers were somewhat similar to what I have enumerated below:-
1. It is DEFENCE COLLEGE. On joining one will become Officers
2. It is free after completing + 2
3. It is just like any other college but it is being run by defence establishment
4. Anyone can join who has just passed +2 without any restriction on marks or subjects
5. One can join after completing class X
6. Even girls can join and become officers
7. Not aware of any entrance exam
8. One can obtain application and join like any other civil colleges

I shall try and explain in a layman language:-
• N.D.A is a tri-services institute, that provides basic military training cum academic training.
• It offers three years training and boys graduate from this institute and move on to IMA, INA or AF academy as per the choice of the candidates
• The admission is through U.P.S.C exam. Held twice a year for those who are within the age limit of 17 1/2 to 19 1/2 years as on the date of admission into the academy
• The institute is presently open for male citizens of India
• The selection is merit based. Merit is calculated by taking into account the marks scored in written test and the marks scored
in Services Selection Board subjected to clearing the Medical fitness test
• Though candidates who have not studies Mathematics, physics and chemistry in +2 can sit for the exam, they are eligible for Army only
• The candidates do get a chance to change over from Army to Navy or IAF or vice versa at the end of the fourth semester
• No pocket allowance is provided by the academy during their training at academy
• In case of voluntary withdrawal the candidate is required to pay the cost of training to the academy
• The training, travel, food, accommodation, books, medical, and other facilities are taken care of by the Ministry of Defence
• A candidate can avail three chances provided his age permits
• It is located at Khadakvasla which is about 24 km away from Pune Railway station
• Last but not the least it is the BEST tri services Institution in ASIA
• In a simple word, the N.D.A cadets are a privileged lot of Indian Youth population
• I certainly ENVY a Cadet who is undergoing training at National Defence Academy
• Their Sprit-de-corps is something that is much stronger than QUICK-FIX
• Entrance exam is taken nearly by about 3 lakh aspirants and only about .01 % of them finally make it into the N.D.A
• Unless one is dedicated and sincere in his preparation, it is difficult to make it through written, SSB and of course the Merit list
• I wish, the reader all the best and GOD be with you during your preparation
• Last but not the least a boy who has just stepped into class XII can apply. If he makes it into the final merit, he would be called up to join the academy during June/ July
• The like ones pack up and leave for N.D.A while their counter parts hunt for college seats.
• IF YOU HAVE IT IN YOU, you make it. If not hard luck
You may try for CDSE or OTA or AFCAT or Naval Academy Direct Entry
What ever way you choose it is only your systematic, dedicated and determined preparation will make you achieve the honour of passing out of the academy as an officer wearing the STARs/ Nelson's Ring or Appletes on your shoulders.
BEST OF LUCK.
