HOW TO ENTER INTO INDIAN ARMY AS AN OFFICER?

Let us explore all the possiblities one by one. I will try and cover as many ways as possible in detail,



This section is ment of Parents who would like to see their son/ daughter as Defence Officers.

For Boys

OPTIONS

1. Sainik Schools    There are 25 India. Admission is via an Entrance Exam, Written and Viva, Medical and Merit list
2. Military Schools   Rashtriya Military Schools- 5 in all. Age limit and entrance same as Sainik Schools.
3. JNV   Jawahar Navodya Schools. Though they are not under Defence, It is the cheapest Residential school with Good coaching
4. RIMC  Rashtriya Indian Military College- Dheradun- Yearly Two course, 25 Vacancy in class VIII only. Admission via Entrance Exam

Note- Class XI Admission in RMS

Some vacancies do exist even in class XI in RMS. For this admission is done by just an interview. The applicants will get shortlisted as per their marks scored in class X and on clearing the Interview and medical will be asked to join the school. Parents should directly approach the Respective RMS School Principal in this regard. This is possible only after the Class X results are out

Class XII Admission in NDA

The right time to apply for National Defence Academy (Pune) is while in class XI in the month of May. The NDA - II exam would be conducted in the month of Sep/ Oct. From 2018 onwards, NDA will offer Three Streams of education, a) B.A (Army Cadets) b) B.Sc,(Army Cadets) c) B.tech( For navy and AF Cadets) One must start preparing for this exam right from class X onwards. The Admission Procedure for NDA:-
1. Face an UPSC Written Exam (Negative Marking)
2. Get Recommended at Services Selection Board Interview
3. Clear the Medical Examination conducted at Military Hospitals
4. Be in the merit list.
There are Two Intakes per year, in Jan and July Number of vacancy is approx. 375 to 400 per term (Incl of Army, Navy, and IAF)
Age:17 to 19.5 Years at the time of admission in NDA Duration of Training is 3 Years at NDA and 1 year in IMA/ Naval Academy / Air Force Academy Passing out as Lieutenant/ Sub Lt, Flying Officer as the case may be This is the Best entry to Become a Pilot in the IAF One has to Pass an aptitude test called- Pilot Apptitude Test during the SSB Interview

NDA Written Test consists of the following subjects:-
1. Mathematics- 300 Marks- 2 hours
2. General Ability- 600 Marks- 2 hours
3. Multiple Choice Questions- with Negative Marking

10 + 2 Technical Entry- 5 Years Course

This is one of the best entries that I would recommended for Candidates who want to become an officer with a Free B.Tech Degree that too without facing any written ExaminationAge: 17- 19.5 Years Duration: 1 year at Officer Training Academy Gaya, followed by 4 years of training at College of Military Engineering= Pune/ Secundrabad/ Mhow At the beginning of the fourth year the cadets will be offered a stipend of Rs. 21,000 per month, this will continue till he gets his commission Commissioning of army cadet is done at OTA GAYA Procedure:- One must have obtained Above 80% in their +2 Exam and apply for 10 + 2 Tech entry during the month of June/ October Face the SSB Interview and get Recommended Clear the Medical and be in the Merit list Two Course per year- Jan and July

One can also get into to Non- Commissioned Ranks in the army just after Class X / XII Age: 17 to 21 Years for Metric Entry and upto 23 for Tech Entry Procedure:-
1. Apply On line in Indian Army Web site
2. Appear for a Physical Endurance Test
3. Appear for A written Exam
4. Clear the Medical
5. Be in Merit list
6. Duration 6 months to 1 years depending upon the Trade
7. Training would be offered at Regimental Centres
Note: A recruit is eligible to receive Stipend during the training. On posting he will be given the rank of Sepoy or equivalent Service period is up to 17 years thereafter as per his choice can serve till super-annuation in what ever rank he reaches

ARMY CADET COLLEGE

This entry is available only to Serving, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen.

Requirements:-

Age: 19 to 27 years Service not less than 2 years as on the date of application Pass a Department Written Test Face the SSB Interview and get Recommended Clear the Medical Examination Be in Merit List

Subjects for Written Exam

This is a Class XII level exam. Conducted twice a year in Jan and Aug
1. Mathematics
2. English
3. General Awareness
4. Reasoning Aptitude

Training

The selected Candidates will under go Three years of Academic Training at Army Cadet College- Dehradun Get a B.A/ B.Sc. Degree On successful Completion move to Indian Military Academy Dehradun for 1 more year of Pre-commissioning Training

Special Commission Officers

This is purely for Soldiers who have completed a min of 10 years of service. There is no written exam, but there is a number of departmental interviews
Face the SSB interview on getting Recommended by the SSB, will move to OTA (Gaya) for a short Training
They will be commissioned as Lieutenant on successful completion of training as Specialist officer in the branch for which they were selected These officers can serve in the Army till their age of Super- annuation. They can reach up to the rank of Brigadier

Territorial Army Commission as Officers

Age Limit: 18 to 42 Years Any Degree Face a Written Exam- held twice a year Face the SSB Interview on getting Recommended Clear the medical and be in merit list Will move straight to Territorial Army unit as an Officer.
