General Information about AFCAT:-




Air Force Combined Admission Test acronym as AFCAT is conducted by India Air Force for grant of Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent/Short Service Commission in Technical and Ground Duty Branches of the IAF after the successful completion of the courses. The courses offered are:
Flying Branch:
  • Short Service Commission Course
Technical Branch:
  • Aeronautical Engineers Course (Permanent Commission)
  • Short Service Commission Course
Ground Duty Branches:
  • Ground Duty Officers Course (Permanent Commission)
  • Short Service Commission Course

Air Force Combined Admission Test Eligibility

Eligibility Conditions for Flying Branch:

Age Limit:Candidates should be between 20 years to 24 years as on 1st Jul. 2017.
However candidates holding valid Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) will be relaxed in age upto 26 years.
Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in any subject area with 60% Marks from a recognized University or Bachelor of Engineering / Bachelor of Technology of 4 years with 60% Marks. Candidates must be passed 12th Examination with Maths and Physics.
Physical Standards:
  • Minimum Height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight
  • Leg length: Min-99 cms. Max-120 cms.
  • Thigh length: Max-64cms.
  • Sitting height: Min-81.5 cms. Max-96 cms.
  • Vision – 6/6 and 6/9
Eligibility Conditions for Technical Branch:

Age Limit:
Candidates should be below 26 years as on 1st Jul, 2016.

Educational Qualifications:
For Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L):
    Candidates applying for AE(L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Instituion of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate Membership examination of the Institue of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.
    Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) AE (M):
      Candidates applying for AE(M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognised university or cleared sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Instituion of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate Membership examination of the Institue of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies.

      Physical Standards:

      Minimum Height (Men) - 157.5 cms, (Women) - 152 cms with correlated weight.
      Eligibility condition for Ground Duty Branches:

      For Post Graduates/LLB (5 years) 20 to 25 years 02 July 1988 to 01 July 1993

      For M.Ed/Ph.D/CA/ICWA 20 to 27 years 02 July 1986 to 01 July 1993

      Educational Qualification
      Branch Qualification
      Administration and Logistics Graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a Post Graduate degree/equivalent diploma in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
      Accounts Graduate degree in Commerce (B.Com) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a Post Graduate Degree in Commerce (M.Com)/CA/ICWA with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.
      Education Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together.


      Air Force Combined Admission Test Syllabus

      The AFCAT will consist of question from the following given subjects:
      Subjects Topics
      General Awareness History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Civics, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics etc.
      Verbal Ability in English Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.
      Numerical Ability Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.
      Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability


      Combined Admission Test
      Pattern

      The AFCAT Question Paper will have 100 questions carrying three marks each. For every correct answer the candidate will get three marks and for every wrong answer one mark will be deducted under negative marking. The total time allotted for the paper is two hours.

      Air Force Combined Admission Test Selection Process

      Candidates who qualifying in th AFCAT Written test will be called for next phase of selection process divided into three stages ie.
      • Stage-I Intelligence Test
      • Stage-II Psychological Test, Group Test and Interview
      • Stage-III Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT)
      Medical Examinations:
      Candidates recommended by selection Board will be sent for the medical examination either at Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi or Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru.

      All India Merit List:

      An All India Merit List is compiled on the basis of your performance in the written test and AFSB interview and subject to being medically fit. Based on the vacancies available in various branches / sub branches, joining instructions are issued to join one of the Training establishments.

      How to apply for AFCAT?
      Aspiring candidates can adopt any of the following given two modes to apply for AFCAT.
      Online Mode:
      The candidates need to register in the official website of Indian Air Force and fill the form following the instructions given along with. Candidates are advised to go through the detailed guidelines for filling up online application before filling up of the form.
      Offline Mode:
      Those opting for Offline mode can get the application downloaded from the official website of India Air Force. Complete the application in all aspects and super scribe the envelope with ‘APPLICATION FOR AIR FORCE COMMON ADMISSION TEST: Feb, 2016' and send it to:
