CDS 1 2017 Admit Card issuance
UPSC will issue admit card to the candidates who have successfully submitted their Application Form. The Admit Card will be available online for downloading. To access the CDS Admit Card, candidates will have to enter their Roll Number and Date of Birth or Registration No and Date of Birth.
CDS Syllabus 2016 –Syllabus is outline of the topics asked in the exam. It helps the candidates while preparing for the exam. The exam of CDS comprises of two stages – Written Examination and SSB Interview. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published the CDS Syllabus 2017 for the written examination. The Syllabus of CDS has detailed regarding the topics of examination as per different subjects. Candidates who will be appearing for the Combined Defence Services Examination can check the CDS Syllabus 2016 on this page.
The Syllabus of CDS has been prepared by UPSC. Candidates by checking the Syllabus will get an idea regarding the topics asked in the exam. Those who will qualify the written examination of CDS will be called for SSB Interview. Final Selection of candidates will be made on the basis of written examination and Interview.
Highlights of CDS Syllabus 2017
- The standard of papers in CDS exam will be of graduate level of an Indian Universities.
- The topics of Elementary Mathematics will be of matriculation level. This section will test the candidate’s knowledge regarding the basic Concept of Maths.
- The question paper in English Language will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and their knowledge of use of words.
- General Knowledge section includes topics of current events, the matters of everyday observation and experience in their Scientific Aspects. There are also topics related to History of India and Geography of nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.

CDS 1 Selection Procedure 2017 – Written Examination
Under CDS 1 written examination, for admission to Military, Naval and Air Force Academy, the candidates are evaluated in English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. Each Paper is of 2 hours duration and carries 100 marks each. For admission to Officers Training Academy, the candidates are tested in the similar manner except that they are exempted from taking the Elementary Mathematics Test. The papers in all the subjects will consist of objective type questions only.
Candidates who will qualify the written examination as per the CDS 1 Selection Procedure 2017 will be called for the SSB Tests. The Commission will prepare a merit list of candidates who have qualified the written examination. The list will contain the names of candidates who by securing the minimum qualifying marks have qualified for the SSB Tests. The minimum qualifying marks will be fixed by the Commission at their discretion.
CDS 1 Selection 2017 – SSB Tests
Candidates who are declared successful in the written examination will be detailed for Intelligence and Personality Test at the Service Selection Board based on their preference by the respective service. Candidates will be put on to two-stage selection procedure based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test has been introduced at Service Selection Boards. All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres. Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage and all those who will fail to pass the stage one will be returned.
Important Points related to CDS 1 Selection Procedure 2017
- To be acceptable, candidates will have to secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in Written Examination and SSB Test as fixed by the Commission and Service Selection Board respectively.
- Candidates on the basis of their marks in the written examination and SSB tests will be placed in the order of merit.
- Success at the examination confers no right for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or the Officers’ Training Academy as the case may be. The final selection will be made in order of merit subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects and number of vacancies available.
Disqualification for admission to the training courses
- Candidates who were admitted to an earlier course at the National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Officers Training Academy, Chennai but were removed there from on disciplinary ground will not be considered for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or for grant of Short Service Commission in the Army.
- Candidates who were previously withdrawn from the Indian Military Academy for lack of Officer-like qualities will not be admitted to the Indian Military Academy.
- Candidates who were previously selected as Special Entry Naval Cadets but were withdrawn from the National Defence Academy or from Naval Training Establishments for lack of Officer-like qualities will not be eligible for admission to the Indian Navy.
- Candidates who were withdrawn from Indian Military Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, NCC and Graduate course for lack of Officer-like qualities will not be considered for grant of Short Service Commission in the Army.
- Candidates who were previously withdrawn from the NCC and Graduates’ course for lack of Officer-like qualities will not be admitted to the Indian Military Academy.
UPSC conducts the CDS examination for recruitment of candidates in Army, Navy and Air Force. The exam is conducted twice in a year. The exam is conducted offline for 300 and 200 marks. The papers included are – English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. The process of selection under CDS 1 2017 examination includes – Written Examination and SSB Tests.

Selection under CDS 1 2017 examination
Candidates under CDS 1 2017 examination will be selected on the basis of Written Examination and Interview. The Commission will prepare a list of candidates who will obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as fixed by the Commission in their discretion. Candidates who are declared successful in the written exam will be detailed for intelligence and personality test at the Service Selection Board based on their preference by the respective service HQ. The candidates will be placed in the order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the written examination and in the SSB tests. The Final Selection of candidates will be made in order of merit subjected to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects and number of vacancies available.
> CDS 1 Admit Card 2017 – The eligible candidates will be issued e-Admit Card for the CDS exam tentatively in the month of January, 2017. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release the CDS 1 Admit Card 2017 three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The Admit Card will be made available here for downloading by the candidates. No Admit Card will be send individually to the candidates by post. The Admit Card will be available online and can be downloaded by provided the Registration ID and date of birth or Roll Number or Date of Birth or Name, Father’s Name, Date of Birth. - Candidates after downloading the Admit Card should take a print out of the same and verify all the information carefully.

4. If you are having problem in downloading e-Admit card using suggested browsers then clear the cache and cookies of browser using browser setting. In case if you are still unable to download the e-Admit card then please try to download the admit card using other computer machine.
5. If the candidate is blocked by the server in case of repetitive downloading please contact UPSC Administrator immediately.
Instruction in the Admit Card of CDS 1 2017
1. Check the e-Admit Card carefully and bring discrepancies, if any, to the notice of UPSC immediately.
2. Mention your Name, Roll Number, Registration ID and Name & Year of the Examination in all the correspondence with UPSC.
3. Bring this e-Admit Card in each session to secure admission to Examination Hall.
4. E-Admit Card may be preserved till the declaration of written result as its production before Service Selection Boards is necessary.
4. You are responsible for safe custody of the e-Admit Card and in the event of any other person using this e-Admit Card, the onus lies on you to prove that you have not used the service of any impersonator.
5. Enter the Examination Hall 20 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the examination.
6. You will not be admitted to the examination if you report 10 minutes after the scheduled commencement of the examination.
7. The candidature of the candidates is provisional.
8. Candidates should bring a photo identity proof viz. Aadhar Card, Driving Licence, Passport, Voter I Card etc. and three passport size photographs one for each session for appearing in the examination with an undertaking.

What is meant by CDS Eligibility Criteria 2017?
CDS Eligibility Criteria 2017 is a set of terms and clauses set in the light of age, educational qualification and Physical Standards. The candidates applying for CDS exam should fulfil these criteria for getting into the process of admission. If a candidate does not satisfy any one of the clauses laid under CDS Eligibility Criteria will be deemed ineligible. The candidates must proceed to fill the application form only after meeting all the terms otherwise their application will be rejected in the screening process.
CDS Eligibility Criteria 2017 – Know its components!
- Nationality
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 July 1962 to permanently settle in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam to permanently settle in India. If a candidate belongs to categories 2, 3, 4, and 5, he must produce the certificate of eligibility that has been issued by the Government of India. Gorkha subjects of Nepal need not produce the certificate of eligibility.
- For IMA Courses—Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1994 and not later than January 1, 1999 only are eligible.
- For Indian Naval Academy—Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1994 and not later than January 1, 1999 only are eligible.
- For Air Force Academy— The candidates age should be 20 to 24 years as on January 1, 2018 i.e. born not earlier than January 2, 1994 and not later than January1, 1998. The Upper age limit of candidates holding valid and current commercial pilot license issued by DGCA (India) is relax able upto 26 years.
- For Officers’ Training Academy—(SSC Course for men) – Male candidates (married or unmarried) born not earlier than January 2, 1993 and not later than January 1, 1999 only are eligible.
- For Officers’ Training Academy—(SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than January 2, 1993 and not later than January 1, 1999.
- For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy— Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.
- For Indian Naval Academy—Degree in Engineering from a recognised University/Institution.
- For Air Force Academy—Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.
- For Officers Training Academy – Degree from a recognized university or equivalent.
- For Officers Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course) – Degree from a recognized university or equivalent.
Important Points to note
- Graduates with first choice as Army/Navy/Air Force are to submit proof of graduation provisional certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB Interview at the SSB.
- Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply.
- Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which are recognised by government as equivalent to professional and technical degrees would also be eligible for admission to the examination.
Physical Standards
The Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2017.
