Similarities
  1. Age of Entrance is same for both schools
  2. ie. below 11 years as on 01 June of the year of Admission
Exception: Military School gives additional 6 months age relaxation in case of son's of defence personnel died during service.

Both prepare boys for NDA Entrance

Dissimilarities: 

1. 25 schools in India----------------------   Only 5 Schools in India
2. Entrance Exam in Jan every year --   Entrance exam in Dec Every year
3. Reservation of seats

Military School Reservation of Vacancies :

(a) 70% for wards of JCOs/OR of Army , Navy and AF ( including Exservicemen) .

(b) 30% for wards of Officers of Army, Navy and AF (including retired Officers) and wards of civilians.
 
(c) 50 seats are reserved for wards of service personnel Killed in Action. Note: 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for SC and ST in all categories.


Fee Military Schools

Fees Structure

Tuition fee with respect to different categories given below (SC and ST candidates are required to pay one fourth of the amount mentioned below)
–Rs 4800/- per annum for OR
–Rs 7200/- per annum JCOs
–Rs 15,000/- per annum for Officers
–Rs 24000/- per annum  for civilians
 
Note:
In addition to above, students are required to deposit pocket money expenditure and refundable security deposit. Details are available in the prospectus of the school.

Sainik 
67% seats are reserved for home state and 33% for the domiciles of other states. Out of the total seats, 15% are reserved for SC and 7.5% for ST candidate. 25% seats are reserved for sons of Defence Service Personnel including Ex-Servicemen [An ex-serviceman is a person who has served in any rank (whether combatant or non-combatant) in Armed Forces of the Indian Union (excluding Assam Rifles, Defence Security Corps, Lok Sahayak Seva, Territorial Army, etc.,) for a continuous period of not less than six months after attestation. 

Fee

 1,00,000/- for General Category and 98,500/- for SC/ST category.
NOTE:-There will be 10% increase on Tuition Fees and Diet Charges every year. The rates may, however, change as per directions of Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence.
