The CISF alias Central Industrial Security Force, established in 1969, is a multi-skilled security agency, mandated to provide security to major critical infrastructure installations of the country in diverse areas. The largest industrial security force in the world, it is one of the specialized Central Para-military Forces of India under the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs with its headquarters at New Delhi. CISF provides security cover to nuclear installations, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, sensitive Government buildings and ever heritage monuments. The important responsibilities entrusted to the CISF are the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, VIP Security, Disaster Management and establishment of a Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the UN at Haiti.
Besides providing protection, safety, and security to Industrial undertaking/installations, Central Industrial Security Force also offers protection against Fire hazards. CISF has a highly specialised, trained and fully equipped fire wing which looks after the fire protection and fire prevention services of 77 units with a strength of about 5000 well trained man power. 
CISF Force consist of the following three branches, namely :- 
  • Executive Branch
  • Fire Service Branch
  • Ministerial Branch 
Each Branch consist of supervisory officers (other than the Director General), and enrolled members of the Force as the Director General may from time to time specify.
The head quarter of CISF is located at 13, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi and is headed by the Director General. It is further organised into six sectors headed by Sector Inspectors General as : 
  1. Eastern Sector : Head Quarter at Patna
  2. Northern Sector : Head Quarter at New Delhi
  3. Western Sector : Head Quarter at Mumbai
  4. Southern Sector : Head Quarter at Chennai
  5. North Eastern Sector : Head Quarter at Kolkata
  6. Airport Sector : Head Quarter at New Delhi
