Both these schools have the same aim of training the candidates to join the National Defence Academy

Both impart CBSE pattern of Studies

Both give admission to students in Class VI and IX

Where  is the Difference?

RMS- Totally 5 in India
( Ajmir, Bangalore, Belguam, Chil, Dholpur)

Sainik Schools: 24 In number
Most of the states have one
while Karnataka has 2, Haryana  has 2.

Sainik school give 65%Seats to Civilians
while 
RMS allots  only 13 % to civilians

Sainik school FEE: Rs. 90,000 per year ( Approx)
RMS Rs. 30,000 per year approx

Exam : RMS written 3rd week of Dec 
( this year it is on 20th Sep 2015)
( Sainik 1st Sunday of Jan - 03 Jan-2016)

Application calling: Sep to mid oct by RMS
Mid Oct to Second Week of Dec by Sainik Schools

Suggestion:-
since the age of  admission to both the institution is same
and the dates are different, it is advisable  to apply for both and
let the student try for both.

You can admit  child as per merit and your choice in RMS

in case of Sainik you can do so only in the state of your own residence.
In other states only 10 % seats are given to people from other states.

so choose carefully.
