In the flight for civilians otherwise known as Commercial section, there are divisions like Marketing, Maintenance, Finance and Airline operations.  The activities of the pilot come under Operation division. 
The pilots undertake long and short distance flights.  An hour before take off, they check and decide the flight plans, otherwise called Pre-Flight check-up.  They have to consider at the same time, the route to be pursued, the height the aircraft has to fly and the existing weather conditions.  The �take off and �landing pose a hazard to pilots.  Apart from these, they have to confirm the functioning of the different parts of Aircraft and Mechanical devices.
They have also to take into account whether the aircraft has sufficient fuel or not.  They share these details with the other cabin members. Moreover, every now and then they communicate to the passengers about the conditions of the flight. Along with the co-pilot, they lead the flight.
For this kind of job, it is essential to possess qualities like discipline, punctuality, responsibility and commitment to the job.  Hard work, good physique, adjustability, alertness and taking decision in crucial hours are some of vital traits required for this profession.
Pilot license has three stages: Student Pilot License, Private Pilot License and Commercial Pilot License. Apart from these, there is a separate Helicopter Pilot License.
Student Pilot License
In every state pilot clubs conduct this.  To obtain this license, one has to complete 10th std. and attain 16 years.  It is vital to produce a bank guarantee for Rs.10,000/-.  The most important aspect of this is to get medical certificate and security clearance certificate. It is compulsory to pass the aptitude test.

Private Pilot License
After getting Students Pilot License, flying training commences with a flying instructor accompanying the cadet during training. The nuances of flying are taught.  After completing the15 hour flying of two cadets together, the trainee student should fly the aircraft for the first time.  This license is issued only after the completing 60 hours of flying. This comprises 20 hours of independent flying and 5 hours of cross-country flying. 
It is mandatory to have completed 17 years of age and +2.  This training involves a very high expenditure. 
Commercial Pilot License
This license is issued after completing 250 total flying hours. Should have completed +2 with Physics and Mathematics.  Must be between the age of 18 to 30.  Written test also will be conducted apart from test in flying.
