The National Defence Academy/ Naval Exam will consist of two papers (objective-type), namely:
  • Mathematics- A 2-hour 30-minute exam with 300 marks as maximum.
  • General Ability Test- A 2-hour 30-minute exam with 600 marks as maximum.
Mathematics- 300 Marks- 2 hours 30 minutes
The syllabus for mathematics intends to check the basic areas which are taught to students in the elementary level. Focusing over these areas is important:
a) Algebra- Areas such as Equations (simple, linear and quadratic) and inequations. Real number, complex number, binary system, binary to decimal conversion and vice-versa, permutation & combination, Log, set and Venn diagrams.
b) Determinants and Matrices- Basic operation and Cramer’s Rule.
c) Trigonometry- Trigonometrical ratios, Inverse Trigonometry, application in properties of a triangle.
d) Analytical Geometry (two and three dimensional)
e) Differential Calculus- Includes derivative, second order derivative and application in maxima & minima.
f) Integral Calculus along with Differential Equations
g) Vector Algebra
h) Statistics- Data Classification, Graphical representation, Measure of Central tendency.
i) Probability- Including Binominal distribution.
General Ability Test- 600 marks- 2 hours and 30 minutes
The syllabus for General Ability Test is scattered over numerous subjects. The Part A section consists of English and the Part B section consists of Physics, History, Geography, Chemistry, General Science and Current Events.
Part A- English
The English section covers sections such as application of Grammar, Vocabulary and Comprehension. This area will directly test a candidate’s potential to use English in daily application.
Part B- General Knowledge
The General Knowledge section of General Ability Test includes the following sub-section, the percentage mentioned at the side of the subjects reflects the weightage that they carry:
  • Physics- 25%
  • History- 20%
  • Geography- 20%
  • Chemistry- 15%
  • General Science- 10%
  • Current Events- 10%
The total number of vacancies under this notification is 375 and candidates from all over India will compete with each other to occupy a post in the National Defence Academy or Naval Academy. Once the examination has been the passed, the shortlisted candidates would then go through an interview round/ personality test where they would be marked out of 900 marks.
Candidates who will make it through the final round will be eligible to join a 4-year B.Tech program under Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) where they will make a choice between Technical and Executive branch. Over the years, this examination has given India some of the best officers in the history of Indian Navy. With more eagerness to join the Indian Navy, people are now determined towards clearing this examination.
