TNUSRB SI – How to apply
Every year the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board selects Sub Inspectors through a common entrance exam and selection procedure to be inducted in civil service. The announcement of the recruitment is usually made during the month of the March or April and the selection procedure beginning with the written exam starts in the month of August. For candidates who wish to be a part of the prestigious Tamil Nadu Police Department, this exam provides the perfect opportunity. The steps involved in the applying for the TNUSRB SI exam are detailed in this article.
Wait for the official notification
The TNUSRB alone has the right to organize and the conduct the exam for filling the post of SI, so wait for the official notification to be released by the board. Usually the advertisement for the recruitment by TNUSRB will be made available in all major newspapers, and broadcasted in TV channels and radio station. Also the candidates are advised to look out for the authentic notification from the board at the TNUSRB website www.tnusrb.tn.gov.in. Since, a number of scams have been identified in the past regarding recruitment of Sub Inspectors, the candidates are advised to wait till the official notification is released before paying any fee for the application process.
Check through the eligibility criteria
Once the official notification is released, check through the eligibility criteria specified in the advertisement and ensure that you meet all the requirements. The general eligibility criteria specified by the TNUSRB for SI posts is that the candidate must be a graduate from a recognized university, must be of age 20–28 years, and physically fit as per the norms specified by the board. For male candidates the minimum height requirement is 170 cm and the chest size requirement is 81 cm. Since there will be no relaxation made on this regard, the candidates are advised to check whether they confirm to the physical eligibility criteria first. Age relaxation will be provided based on community quota to eligible candidates, as specified by the Tamil Nadu Government.

The application of the post of SI can be made online at TNUSRBs website or offline by post. For online application, the candidates are advised to read through the instructions carefully and enter the details as specified in the mark sheets or certificates obtained from professional bodies. Any discrepancy or mismatch in data during actual verification will lead to immediate rejection of the candidature; hence the candidates are advised to provide accurate info when providing physical details such as height measurement and age. All candidates applying for the TNUSRB will be asked to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs.125 as application processing fee. Once the application has been successfully submitted, the candidates will get an acknowledgement for the receipt of their application.
