Computerized Pilot Selection System for IAF: 

The project aimed to develop hardware and software for CPSS consisting of psychomotor and cognitive testing system and to develop software for cognitive tests.

 CPSS has been CPSS 91 delivered, accepted and in use at three sites of Air Force Selection Boards at Mysore, Dehradun and Varanasi. 



CPSS consists of two part test first part is little bit difficult and who clears the first part become eligible for second part.
First part further consists of several tests (approx 8) which is fully online based. Before the tests start an introduction is given to you.
This tests consist of-
  • Meter reading (15 Ques)
  • Plane position (60 Ques)
  • Verbal reasoning (30 Ques)
  • Non verbal reasoning (30 Ques)
  • Mathematics (30 Ques)
  • Open figure problems and 2 to 3 more..
Note: Introduction is only for metre reading.
Also time is very less in each section you have to be very fast. Generally some candidates fail in this exam due to mathematics section because of lack of practice. Sections like reasoning also requires some practice to score well.
Now come to the second part after clearing the first you are now eligible for the second part. This is basically a cockpit test. In this test you are allowed to sit in a cockpit and have to play about 10 to 11 games using pedals and joystick.
This test requires proper attention to introduction and proper control on your hands and legs.

Edit 1- Now come to the cockpit game part. Guys i wanna tell you that this test is going to be one of the best test you have ever enjoyed in your life. No matter you fail or pass.
In this test you are allowed to sit in a automated cockpit with a screen infront of you. Pedals and joystick are also there. You are also provided with a good quality headphone. In my time ‘Bose headphone’ is given to us.
Before every game there is a introduction part which you have to understand on your own. Take your time as much as possible to understand the introduction as there is no time limit. As soon as you hit the button to start the game your time starts. Generally for each game or you can say for each trial you are given 30 sec to 1 min. For every game you are given 4 trials. And out of which your best trial is taken into account.

  1. For meter reading and plane position test refer this. This will give you a fair idea of the instruments and how they works Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT). Time for this test varies from 15 to 20 mins.
  2. In verbal and non verbal part 60 questions are there and all are from following chapters. From each chapter you will find 2 to 3 questions, but sometimes from some chapters like cube and dice, series, paper cutting, dot situation, questions exceeds to 7 to 10. 3. In Mathematics basic questions are there related to (4 digit × 4 digit) multiplication, ratio and proportion, probability, simple interest, simple algebra etc. Time for this test also varies from 25 to 30 mins.
4. All other tests are basically from verbal reasoning part only. Time for these test varies from 15 to 20 mins.
