Worry of the Parents of Today

This evening, an honorary captain walked into my office his question is similar to a number of parents who come over to my academy to know how I can help them to send their son/daughter in to the armed forces.
Here we go,
I do not consider myself to be an Encyclopedia on career counseling, yet here are a few words suggestions one could easily follow:

1.       COMBINED AIM OF WHAT CAREER TO BE CHOOSEN IS IMPORTANT
Often there is a mismatch between the aim of the candidate and their parents. This is because some of the parents force their thoughts on to their son or daughter and force them to choose a career of their choice and not that of the candidate. This leads to a lot of heartburn.
Please sit with your son or daughter and list out the desire verses the skill of the child and then come to a conclusion about which career would be more suitable to the candidate.

2.       WHAT DOES THE FORCES WANT?
Forces are looking for an average candidate with suitable skill to be trained as an officer. Every one of us do have the skills required to become a potential officer candidate, but it depends on the individual to project the right qualities at the right time (during SSB/ FSB) of interview selection process. I shall not go into nuts and bolts of officer’s selection process.

3.       WHEN SHOULD ONE START?
Start your child’s career by admitting him/her in Sainik school/ Military School
Make him appear for NDA
Put him in NCC

While in school as well as while at college ( NCC C Certificate Holders with B and A grade excused from written test  for SS and airforce pilot entry)
Appearing for CDSE , AFCAT- One should start this training right from 2nd year/3rd year of college. With negative marking it is not easy to crack.
Joining in the ranks as soldiers, sailors and airmen, this depends on individuals liking and capacity both physical and mental.

4.       HOW DO WE HELP?
By administering skill finding test we can assess his/her skill and whether the candidate has a flair for being accepted by the SSB /FSB .
