Let us start with school final exam:
while you are in school final ie.class 12, you should send in your application to write the
NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY WRITTEN TEST conducted by the UPSC.

NDA and NAVAL ACADEMY ENTRANCE EXAM
Written Exam consists of:-
a) Mathematics- 2.5 hours- 300 Marks
b) General Ability- 2.5 hours- 600 Marks
(i) English- 200 Marks and
(ii GK ----- 400 Marks
c) Services Selection Board Interview ( For those who qualify Written Exam) 900 Marks
Note: Negative marking, objective type papers
On passing the written examination, one will have to face the Services
Selection Interview examination at any one of the following Selection

Recruitment in Indian Armed Forces
The Indian Armed Forces symbolize the ideals of service, patriotism
and composite culture of the country. Recruitment to the Armed Forces is
voluntary and open to all citizens of India irrespective of caste,
class, religion and community, provided the laid down physical, medical
and educational criteria are met.
UPSC Recruitment of Commissioned Officers
The Union Public Service Commission recruits the Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces by conducting mainly the two all India Competitive Examinations.

National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Defence Academy (NA)
The
UPSC
holds entrance examination twice a year for entry into the NDA and Naval Academy. Candidates on completion of 10+2 examination
or while in the 12th standard are eligible to compete.
Army Cadet College
Service Entry
This entry is only for serving soldiers, airmen and Sailors.
Eligiblity: Those who have completed, +2 or equivalent in army, navy,
air force exam and have served for a minimum period of two years are
eligible to take the ARMY CADET COLLEGE, entrance Exam
Those candidates who qualify the written test, face the SSB interview, followed by medical.
They are admitted in ACC based on their merit list. The entire three years of training is provided at Army Cadet
College wing of IMA Dehradun
Like NDA they do get a degree from Jawhar lal Nehru University and enter IMA for further one year of training
Age limit for this entry is up to 27 years
They continue to draw pay and allowances of their rank till they pass out of Army Cadet College
Combined Defence Services Examination- Indian Military Academy
CDSE is conducted by the UPSC,twice a year. University graduates or those in final year
of graduation are eligible to appear in the examination.
Successful candidates join the Indian Military Academy/Air Force Academy and Naval Academy for Permanent Commission
and Officers Training Academy (OTA) for Short Service Commission.
Officers Academy- Chennai

This academy trains and finally commissions officer cadets in the rank of Lieuenant by offering them Short service Commission
Short Service Commission (Technical) Entry or Non-technical Entry is available according to education and option
The Short Service Commission (Technical) Entry Scheme provides avenues
to eligible technical graduates/post graduates for recruitment in
Technical Arms. After SSB and Medical Board, the selected candidates are
required to undergo approximately 49 weeks pre-commission training at
OTA, Chennai.

Apart from recruitment through the UPSC, the commissioned officers are also recruited in Army through the Non-UPSC entries.
The Army
offers both permanent and short service commissions. Permanent
commission (PC) is granted through the Indian Military Academy (IMA)
Dehradun and Short Service Commission (SSC) is granted through Officers
Training Academy (OTA) Chennai. When you opt for 'PC', you are basically
looking at a permanent career in the Army, a career till you retire.
SSC is a wonderful option for all those of you who aspire to serve it
for a few years. It gives you the option of joining the Army, and
serving it as a commissioned officer for five years. Once your tenure is
over, you are allowed to opt for PC. Alternatively, you can also ask
for a five years extension and can choose to resign from your post any
time during this period.

Recruitment of Officers through Non- UPSC Entries: Recruitment of Commissioned Officers in the Indian Air Force is mainly done through the
UPSC. For technical branches, women special entry scheme, National Cadet Corps
(NCC) special entry scheme, service entries, recruitment is made
directly through the Recruiting Directorate for the Indian Air Force.
