Stage (b) of Screening
Picture perception- Narration- Gp Discussion
Combine marking of this is done by each assessment officer as follows:-
After PPDT the Decisions by assessors are as follows:
All the three assessment officer mark the candidates as follows:
1. Y---Yes (has potential)
2. D---Doubtful
3. N---No
The Final selection Depends upon the number of assessment officer marked the candidates performance as YES---- Doubtful----NO
OIR Grading and the marking in PPDT has relation:-
Eg:
OIR- 1, 2, 3 The candidate who has been earmarked as Yes / Doubtful By at least one assessment officer makes it to stage - II
OIR- 4 The candidate who has been earmarked as Yes / Doubtful By at least Two assessment officer makes it to stage - II
OIR- 5 The candidate who has been earmarked as Yes By at least two assessment officer makes it to stage - IIThe above quoted example will give you a rough idea as to the assessment process
Besides this number of attempts also is considered

In a SSB in which candidates called after being short listed without Written test normally 40% Max will be screened in.
In case of UPSC exam cleared candidates it would be higher upto 60% gets screened in.

Let us see some of the Major Reasons as to Why a candidate gets Rejected in stage - I
  1. Not paying attention to GTO while briefing and you are busy preparing / rehearsing your individual story.
  2. Attempting to complete your story by writing, when specifically told not to do so, in the group Discussion Phase. (This Shows lack of SOR and disobedience of Order)
  3. If you shook your head conveying, No Sir, I do not want to give my Individual Story or I cannot speak- It show you are Too Under-Confident
  4. If you needed the sheet for the complete duration of one min to narrate your individual story. It Indicates Very poor Control on Language skills leading to lack of Self-Confidence
  5. If you are not listening when others were speaking and may be looking at your own paper and preparing / Memorizing - You have invited trouble
  6. Gave a good story but not at all relevant to the picture shown .i.e Narrated Previously prepared Story. Shows Coached response
  7. If one misses out the Stimulus completely and get struck with it in the discussion. This indicates Lack of Flexibility and Lack of Acceptance of others ideas.
  8. If you were unable to give your individual story due to stress/ other reasons. It shows Low Self- Confidence
  9. If a candidate is unable to maintain eye contact with the group members It is a sure sign of Low Confidence
  10. Could not speak in English and started off in some other language
  11. Abrupt ending- No conclusion
  12. Poor Body language while discussing Like looking down, Shaking too much Sign of Nervousness and low confidence
  13. If you exceed the 1 minute time limit and continue still further in spite of being pointed out
  14. If you have discussed before you came in to attend the GD and tries to make a common story before GD commenced Over Smart
  15. If you kept quite after you gave reasonably good story in the 1st part but kept totally mum / quite in the GD part- This indicates Low on Self-Confidence and Inability to participate in a Group
  16. If you tried to dominate the GD by not giving chance to anyone else. Disruptive kind
  17. If you fight for giving your story as the group story
  18. When you get a chance to conclude on behalf of the group, Instead of giving the group story you start giving out your own story. A major Mistake
  19. If you suggest due to Ego conflict with some other Candidate, and nominate a mild person to give the group story
  20. If you get caught in a group that is fishmarket- Whole group might get washed out Here the Story narration plays an Important Part .
  21. If you do not have enough courage to diplomatically handle a dominating person in your group- Then it is difficult to get screened in- At least put an effort.
  22. Very Low OIR Marks
  23. If you are over-weight obese (FAT) or any visible physical deformity
  24. Overall performance that is Low OIR + Poor Story Narration + Poor Participation.
You should be ready to pack up and go home after Screening.
