Problem:
Average of 6 numbers is 8.
If each of the numbers is reduced by 2. Then the new number would be what?

Step1: Given:
Average age of 6 Nos  8
Step 2: To find:
a) The total of 6 numbers
Less 2 from each of the 6 nos:
Step 3: Formula to be used:
Ave= Sum of all qty/ no of qty.

Step 4: Working:
a) First find the total of all the 6 Nos: ie 6 x 8 = 48
b) Since each of the six numbers has to be reduced by 2 we get
6 x 2 = 12
c) The total of 6 number sis 48
Less 12
= Total of 6 numbers after reduction
       Hence the total would be
48-12 = 36
Step 5: Answer
Therefore the total of 6 numbers is 36.
