How To Become A Pilot In The Indian Defence Forces?

QUALIFICATION

A few Qualification that is expected from a candidate who aspire to become a Pilot as for as Indian Air Force or Indian Navy / Indian Coast Guard / Indian Army or other Central Police Organisation are:-
  1. Edn: Upto +2 With Physics and Maths
  2. Health: Physical fitness shape - 1
  3. Eye Power: not more than 0.5 but correctable up to 6/6
  4. Must Qualify in Pilot Aptitude Test
  5. Should not be suffering from colour blindness
  6. Leg Length from hip bone to heal should not be less than 99 cm
  7. Should have qualified Services Selection Board Interview
  8. A under graduate Degree in any discipline (First Class)
  9. Male candidates are eligible to fly Fighters
  10. Female Candidates are eligible to fly Helicopters or Transport Air crafts
  11. Age should be between 18 to 24 years( in case of CPL Holders - 25 years)
  12. For coast Guard it is upto 26 years

HOW TO ENTER?

For Men:-
1. National Defence Academy 3 years at Khadakvasala and then 1.5 years at Air Force Academy
2. Via- CDSE-Combined Defence Services Entry- 1.5 Years at Air Force Academy
3. Via AFCAT- Air Force Common Admission Test 1.5 years at Air Force Academy
4. With out Entrance Test: - Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard- 6 months at Naval academy - Then 1 year at AFA or IGRUA (Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy- This is a commercial Pilot Training Institute located at Rae Baraily. This is may be a stop gap arrangement
5. For Army Aviation- One has to become an officer via, OTA/ IMA, and after a few years of service can opt for flying branch- They are now being trained at AFA and then move to Deolali for Helicopter training.
