Services Selection Board Interview

What does an Interviewing Officer Want to know about you?

1.       Why do you want to join the Defence Forces?

2.       What do you know about Army/ Navy/ IAF/ Coast Guard/ as the case may be?

3.       Where did you learn about the opportunity to attend as academy?

4.       Where did you first develop an interest in attending an academy?

5.       What type of preparation have you done in order to get in the academy?

6.       If you do not make it this time what are your plans?

Family:

7.       How does your family feel about your wanting to attend an academy?

8.       Are your parents employed? Occupations? Where Location? What type of job?

9.       How many brothers and sisters do you have?

10.   Which of your parents exercise the most influence over you?

11.   What type of discipline was administered by your parents to you?

12.   What kind of relationship do you have with your brother (s) and Sister (s)?

13.   Are any of your relatives in the forces? If yes, which one what is their rank?

14.   Have any of your friends been/ are a member of the Armed forces? If yes which one? Where is he/ she now posted?  

Career Motivation:-

15.   Where would you like to be professionally in fifteen years?

16.   How long do you plan to remain in the military as an officer?

17.   In case you do not make it to the officer’s rank would you like to join in the other ranks?

18.   What really motivated you to apply for admission to a service academy?

19.   Which branch of defence forces would you like to apply for and Why?

20.   Would you be willing to join the central police forces if you do not make it?

Academics:-

21.   What are the subjects you liked that least in high school / college?

22.   In which subject do you do your best work?

23.   Do you feel your grades indicate your true ability? Why?

24.   Have you won or been awarded any scholastic honours?  

25.   Do you have liking for science subjects? In which one you have scored the maximum marks?

26.   What are your extra-curricular activities?

27.   Which of them give you most satisfaction and why?

Jobs and Interest:

28.   Have you ever had a part-time job? Do you have one now?

29.   What are your hobbies? How much time do you spend at them?

30.   What kind of periodicals (Magazine) do you read? What was the name of the last book you read (Not in connection with school/ college work)?

31.   Have you at anytime directed or organized people or participated in efforts designed to fill a community need?     

Social:-

32.   How do you characterize the people you have as friends?

33.   What type of person do you most enjoy being with?

34.   What type of person irritates you most?

35.   When and what has been the longest period of time you have been away from your parents?

Self Perception:-  

36.   What do you feel are your outstanding qualities ?

37.   In what areas of academics and personality do you feel you can stand some improving? Why?

38.   Who motivates your actions the most, your parents or others?

39.   If you were given an order that you thought to be immoral, would you carry out? What would you do?

40.   Do you feel you are capable of surviving the demanding physical and mental requirements of academy life? Why?

41.   Why should I select you to receive training at the academy?

42.   What is the single most difficult task you have had to accomplish that you didn’t want to do?

43.   Give me three examples of acts of heroism or effective leadership that you have displayed?

44.   What is your opinion of the Military Discipline?

45.   When one of your close friends violates a military discipline / order would you report it to the higher ups?

Physical Aspects:-     

46.   Which physical sports are you’re involved in? What position?

47.   What kind of physical exercise do you engage in on a regular basis?

48.   Are you in a leadership position in any of your team activities?

49.   How far are you able to jog without stopping?

50.   Do you wear glasses? Are your wearing contact lenses now?  

General awareness:-

51.   Tell me something about the place where you come from, what are the important places?

52.   Tell me three important national and International news as of today.

53.    Have your attended the SSB earlier, if yes what was the result? If NOT R, then what could be the reasons?
