HOW TO TRAIN YOUR KID TO JOIN THE RASHTRIYA INDIAN MILITARY COLLEGE-DEHREDUN?

This is a step by step guide written by an experienced trainer who has coached more than 20 successful entrant in RIMC

STEP ONE- FIND THE SKILL IN YOUR CHILD

It is but natural that as a parent one would say that his/ her child is intelligent and is capable of cracking a tough examination. Being positive is good, but one should be practical too.
  • How to evaluate your child's IQ?

  • Though a number of online IQ (intelligence Quotient) measuring tests are available, most are not very accurate. Those which are acurate one has to pay to get the results and get in analysed by a trained expert. Hence, I suggest, you fix an appointment with a Clinical Psychologist and get your child's IQ in other words learning ablilty
One may ask, he or she may be getting very good marks at school, then Why should you one get the IQ of the child tested?
From my experience I have seen only children whose IQ is more than 120 make it in the merit list for RIMC. RIMC being a very competitive exam, one has to really put in a lot of hardwork. On analysing the questions asked in RIMC it is found that those questions that have higher marks can be answered only by those, who have mastered the chapter pertaining to their class/Here is a website from where you/ your child can take a free IQ
This is a Non-Verbal IQ Test which I use to administer to a candidate prior to admission TEST ONE
    TESTS-TWO
Its A matrices IQ test is a non-verbal ‘culture fair’ multiple choice IQ test, that measures ther fluid intelligence (Gf) –Or Reasoning and problem solving ability. Fluid intelligence is a core component of g – your general intelligence. In each test item, the subject is asked to identify the missing element that completes a pattern of shapes. The patterns are presented in the form of a 4×4, 3×3, or 2×2 matrix, giving the test its name. An example of a matrices test is shown here, from Smart-kit.com.
Alternatively you can also adminster Revan's standard Matrices tests Or you can do a lot of research on sample tests in the site:-

  • What Next?

Once you have found out the approximate IQ now move on to Stage Two.
In this all you have to do is buy Books such as IMO, Olympiad tests appropriate to the age and class in which he/she is studying. Solving these tests will give confidence to the child :-
Suggested BooksIn order to encourage the child some one must sit near him and must monitor his work. Let me tell you any test more than 1 hour the child will not do it alone. How to Develop the language? Start making the child read small novels, story books, if the child does not understand a particular word do not tell him the meaning but encourage him to find it out from Dictionary Reading habit will increase his vocabulary. Once the child has read it ask him to write a review about the book. This will help him develop his writing skill. You can also take help from a web site: thatquiz.com Stage 3 Divide the chapters into day wise and see to it that child completes these chapters on that day itself. It can be carried over to next day, if he has doubts. For mathematics, the child should be able to solve minimum of 25 questions per chapter. This will help in his speed and accuracy General Awareness I agree it is an ocean, but the child should be encouraged to read the newspaper and collect any 5 important news item of the day and write it down in his GK Note book For example Sports, Defence, Who is who, Awards, etc.,
Every topic is important hence a selective study is not recommended. There is no need to go in depth.
For an example. Let us say Seas and Ocean is Geography
It is better to buy a Globe or an world map/ or an Atlas and ask the child to locate it.. This will make his mental picture about the sea/ ocean, the countries around the ocean and its capital, currency used can be flagged and make a Flash card and encourage him to use Different colour cards should be used for different subjects. Flash card is nothing but a small piece of card board on one side we write the question and on the otherside its answer. Number the cards and pick them randomly

Step No: Three- Systematic Planned Training
