How to prepare your son/ daughter for a profession in the Defence Forces Part -I
Dear Parents,
Every Child has been endowed with
some or the other skill by the GOD ALMIGHTY.
A Person becomes successful only when he or she is able to give her 100%
in the profession. On the other hand a
career is something that is very close to your heart and you love doing it
irrespective of what you get back from it. For example, a child might be good
in drawing or singing, it does not mean that the child should become a
professional artist or a singer. The skill comes to them naturally, if they are
given some training they start excelling in it.
Defence forces
are for those who love outdoor life, adventure and challenge. In this
profession they do not challenge others but they challenge themselves to do
better and better. Unlike other
profession there are no losers’ only heroes and veterans. Let me make no bones about it, many try but
only a few who are fit mentally, physically and
act normally under pressure and take a decision that is most appropriate
for the benefit of the sub-unit is selected to become an officer. In other words, a refined or modern chanakiya
if manufactured by military school, colleges, and military training
establishments.
Starting early in life is the
best way to find out if it is a horse or a mule. Sainik School and Military
Schools guide a student to make up his / her mind to choose or to stay away
from the Armed forces. Thanks to government of India, it is slowly started
giving admission to girls in Sainik Schools. The first Sainik school that is
being run by government that has opened the gates to girls is Sainik School
Mizoram from class VI.
The choice is yours Sainik School
or Military School, both these institutions gives admission to boys in class VI
or Class IX, through a written examination, followed by personal interview and
merit list. Rashtriya Indian Military
College (Dehradun) gives admission n class VIII and only 25 seats are available
for the entire nation. Since the seats
being very limited only a deserving few get admission in these institutions.
Defence Academy Coimbatore that
is being run by the author helps parents to prepare their son/ daughter to face
the competitive examination and interview. The academy offers preparatory notes
for aspirants to train themselves and face the examination with confidence.
Let me answer a few questions
that people often ask me.
Can a
civilian admit his son/ daughter in these schools?YESCan a
boy or a girl join the forces without ever studying in these institutions?YES, More than 85% of the officer candidates come from
private/ publics schools.
Is entry
into the defence forces as an officer is guaranteed after having completed
studies in these schools?
NO, one must pass the UPSC exam
and face a Services Selection Board interview, Medical and finally be in merit
to gain admission in NDA, OTA, IMA, NA, AF Academy.
When
should the child be prepared to take up the exam while studying in class V?For Sainik School or Rashtriya
Military School class VI entrance, I personally feel it is okay to train the
child from Class IV onwards.
For RIMC Class VIII entrance, the
boy should be prepared for not less than a year. (In my experience during the
last 17 years, I have seen that only those boys whose IQ is about 120 get in
the RIMC Merit)
The average IQ of a boy of 10
years is about 85 to 105. So my sincere suggestion is get the IQ of your son or
daughter evaluated by a profession child psychologist before making him appear
for the entrance exam. He or she should also be medically checked up for
physical fitness before the effort is made.
In order to help the parents to
get some insight into the life of a cadet at RIMC, RMS / Sainik School, I
suggest you along with the child please visit these institutions before you
proceed. The visit will make the child decide and work hard to face the tough
competitive examination.
Which school is better?
Undoubtedly RASHTRIYA INDIAN
MILITARY COLLEGE (RIMC- Dehradun) He the boys gets selected for admission,
you can be sure he is among the cream in the state in that age group. It is not easy to crack the entrance without
a through preparation.
Second in my list comes Rashtriya
Military School and then comes Sainik Schools.
Though the training is same in all the above institutions, the final
results at NDA is the acid test of the efforts put by the candidate.
A few boys who are from civil
schools and gain entry into NDA, are unable to complete the training and tough
routine called for in the elite institution and they seek withdrawal from
training at an early stage. Well, boys from Sainik, RMS or RIMC are trained to
take on the rigorous routine of the NDA and often find it easy as and when
compared to his civilian counterpart.
Before I conclude let me emphasize on MUST do
actions by the Parents·
First of all get
the child tested by a clinical psychologist to find out his/her present level
of IQ
·
Get the child
medically checked up for any birth defect that may be a cause of rejection in
medical examination. (Example, Colour blindness, Knock Knee, Flat foot etc.)
·
Take the
candidate for a motivational visit to the institution in which you seek
admission. ( At least view the YOUTUBE about the activities of the school)
·
Join a likeminded
students group.
·
Buy a good study
material and prepare the child at least for 6 months to an year prior to
