How to become a Pilot by joining IAF as an Airman ?

Dear reader,
after +2 , if a male candidate joins the Indian Air Force as an Airman is it really possible to become a Pilot?????

This was the question asked to me at the academy.
Here is the answer to the above Question.

YES

How should one go about it?

If you are a science student, meaning if you have taken up Science (PCM) during
your school days and passed in Class XII, then you are eligible.

The AIR FORCE personnel, who are serving in the other rank are allotted a quota for becoming an officer in Aviation and Tech and Non Tech branches.

Procedure:

a) A small departmental exam to know your present level of preparedness.
Once you get short listed after a written and departmental interview, you will be sent to

b) Air Force Selection Board for Selection. (SSB + Pilot Aptitude battery Test)

c) Once you get recommended you will be

d) Medically examined and

e) receive a Call letter to join the Air Force Academy for Pilot Training.

IS THERE AN ADVANTAGE IN THIS WAY OF SELECTION?

Yes, Unlike NDA, the departmental exam is a CAKE Walk

In SSB, You will not be part of the Civilian batch,

You will be grouped as a Service Candidate and you will be tested among them

Here you stand a better chance of getting Recommended visa viz the NDA aspirants Batch.

Reason, most of the students who qualify for NDA are from well reputed Schools
like, Sainik, Military Schools, RIMC. KV, and other Public Schools.

I Personally feel a service candidate might feel out of Place.

Hence when you are put in a batch where only service candidates are tested you would feel confident and face the board on an equal footing.

Advantages.

Earn while you learn.
unlike NDA cadets, your service (counting of service) starts from the day you join as an trainee airman.

You get paid through out your training period.

Your selection and promotion is at par with NDA cadets.

SO, do not hesitate to join the IAF as an Airman and try your luck

(This is for those who are unable to continue their college education due to family conditions)

If you can join NDA, nothing like it.

I remember an incident during NDA training. one of the NDA cadet was a Sailor, who made to the the NDA and he was the only one who was drawing his monthly salary even while undergoing the Complete three years at NDA and went on the get his pay while undergoing pre-commissioning trg.

Like wise, a soldier, sailor, air man, naviks, constable can write NDA (UPSC) exam and if qualified can enjoy such previllage

Let me caution you only a few lucky ones make it in this venture.
If not qualified in SSB, then one may continue to serve in the other ranks till he retires.

There was also a case of an airman becoming an IPS Officer after qualifying in CIVIL Services.

(Those who aspire to become IAS-IPS officers are you reading this?, You are given a Certain QUOTA if you are serving in Uniform)
