If a bus travels 160 km in 4 hours and a train travels 320 km in 5 hours at uniform speeds, then what is the ratio of the distances travelled by them in one hour?
  1. 4 : 5
  2. 1 : 2
  3. 8 : 5
  4. 5 : 8
Answer
Bus travels 160 km in 4 hours
Speed of bus = 160/4 = 40 km/hr
Train travels 320 km in 5 hours
Speed of train = 320/5 = 64 km/hr
In one hour, bus travels 40 km and train travels 64 km.
Ratio = 40:64 = 5:8
The correct option is D.

A person can walk a certain distance and drive back in six hours. He can also walk both ways in 10 hours. How much time will he take to drive both ways?
  1. Two hours
  2. Two and a half hours
  3. Four hours
  4. Five and a half hours
Answer
When a person walks two ways, it takes 10 hours.
So, 1-way walk will take 5 hours
1-way walk + 1-way Drive = 6 hours
1-way drive = 6 - 5 = 1 hour
Hence, 2-way drive = 2 hours
The correct option is A.

A thief running at 8 km/hr is chased by a policeman whose speed is 10 km/hr. if the thief is 100 m ahead of the policeman, then the time required for the policeman to catch the thief will be
  1. 6 min
  2. 3 min
  3. 2 min
  4. 4 min
Answer
The relative speed between police and thief = 10-8 = 2 km/h = 10/18 m/s
Distance between police and thief = 100 m
Time = Distance/Speed = 180 s = 3 min
The correct option is B.
