Mathematics Chapter Fractions:
1.       What is a fraction?
2.       What are the types of fractions
3.       Give one example each
4.       Addition of fractions
5.       Subtraction of fractions
6.       Multiplication of fractions
7.       Division of Fractions

What is a fraction?
Fraction means Part of a whole:  Like 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16  ect
It means One is divided into two parts- ½
If One is divided into 4 parts it is known as ¼

What are the type of Fractions:-
a)      Like Fraction---------------------------------------------eg: Same Denominator-------- 2/6, 1/6, 3/6
b)      Unlike Fraction------------------------------------------eg: Different Denominators—1/2, 2/3, 3/4
c)       Equivalent Fraction------------------------------------eg: Represents the same amount: ½, 2/4, 3/6
d)      Proper Fraction-----------------------------------------eg: Numerator less than Denominator- ¾, 7/8
e)      Improper Fraction--------------------------------------eg: Denominator less than Numerator- 7/4,3/2
f)       Mixed Fraction------------------------------------------eg: Whole number combined with fractions: 1 ¾

Comparing Fractions:

1)      Same Denominators      -   5/8  >  3/8
Compare the numerators Greater the numerator, Bigger the fraction

2)      Same Numerators           - 1/8 < 1/6
Compare the Denominator Greater the denominator, Smaller the fraction.
3)      Proper Fraction                - 1/2  <  2/3
Convert to like fractions LCM of 2 and 3= 6
1*3          =     3/6                and            2*2  =    4/6
2*3                                                          3*2
Compare numerators = 3/6 < 4/6
4)      Improper Fraction           - 8/7  <  3/2
Convert to like fractions LCM of 7 and 2 = 14
8*2  = 16/14          and   3*7  =   21/14
7*2                                    2*7
Compare the numerators = 16/14  <  21/14

Like Fractions
                2/6 + 1/6 = 3/6 = 1/2
              Add the Numerators

Unlike Fractions
              1/2 + 2/3 =  1  1/6

Convert to like fractions:
·         LCM of 2 and 3 = 6
·         Multiply both Fractions with a number to get denominator as 6
1/2 * 3/3 + 2/3 *2/2
= 3/6 + 4/6 = 7/6 = 1 1/6
