Screening Tests at the Services Selection Board

What is SCREENING TEST and WHY CONDUCTED?  

These tests are conducted in order to filter better candidates from aspirants, who turn out in large numbers at the ssb interview
This is the era of Competition, and the Survival of the fittest
About 60 to 70 % of the candidates get SCREENED OUT on the very first day, that too with in a few hours of reporting to the Selection Centers.

What does this SCREENING TEST consist of?

a)     Officers’ Intelligence Rating ( Verbal and Non verbal Intelligence tests)
b)    Picture Perception and Description Test
c)     Group Discussion on the Picture shown

Tips to do well in Screening:Practice , Practice and Practice for both Verbal and Non Verbal testsStory writing on a hazy pictureFollow the instructions given by the conducting officera)     Have a good look at the picture shown ( hazy picture, its back ground, number of persons, location, and what they are doing, mood, etc.,)
b)    Identify the Main Character. ( Diff pictures are shown for male and female candidates)
c)     You must think of the main character as yourself, ( SEX, age)
d)    Depending upon the picture the mood may be +ve. _ve or Neutral 
e)    Choose a proper heading that will and should co relate to your story.
f)      Now think about the past, present and future of the scene that you have perceived.
g)     In the story Hero/ heroine should have AN AIM / Purpose/ PROBLEM to be solved. ( This would make the theme of the story)
h)    Build the story logically, and let the action taken by the Main character speak about his quality ( Do not add too many adjectives)
i)       The story should be realistic and should move towards positive end.
j)       Do not make the Hero / Heroine a super human being.
k)     Watch out for matured way of thinking. Ie, you should not describe the scene and write a story like a child. (like long ago, there lived…..)
l)       Connect it with day to day life, use you ingenuity.  
m)  Since you get only 4 mins , better practice and finish it with in this time.
While DiscussionNarrate your story as and when your turn comesDuring discussion, listen carefully to others, link your story to others, you should be polite at the same time be careful and try to make a new story out of the inputs.Do not force people to accept your story as the ultimateOrBlindly accept someone else’s story as the final.  Let your mind speak. Do not dominate.
